WTIC and WTXX TELEVISION POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION: National Sales Manager DATE: 04/27/09

DEPARTMENT: Sales

REPORTS TO: National Revenue Director

ROLE: The National Sales Manager is responsible for all sales activity that emanates from the national spot sales marketplace. In this role, the manager works directly with the national rep firm and its assigned account executives to effectively position both WTIC and WTXX in the best competitive position. The NSM's primary interdepartmental function is to facilitate the smooth transition of the booked business into the appropriate sales support systems. Accurate ascertainment and monitoring of all budgetary items and sales forecasting/goals is of great importance. In addition, the NSM will be responsible for presenting all CT Tribune properties to national clients utilizing a cross media, cross platform sales approach. These products include but are not limited to the Hartford Courant, Courant.com, WTIC and WTXX TV.

RESPONSIBILITIES: * Manage National Rep Firm efforts to ensure that sales goals are met. * Create and present WTIC and WTXX specific sales presentations to both clients and TeleRep. * Resolve problems, including under delivery and collections, with agencies and clients. * Liaison with TeleRep sales management in coaching, motivating and reviewing sales teams and individual managers & account executives. * Forecast the amount of advertising dollars to be spent in the national marketplace each year and establish, as a sales goal, the amount of that total which WTIC intends to attain. * Accountable for meeting targeted financial budget and market share goals. * Actively ascertain and pursue Cross Media/Cross Platform sales opportunities with other Tribune Media Units.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: * Undergraduate degree in marketing or equivalent-related experience. * Minimum of five years' experience in television sales * Requires analytical and technical skills to analyze markets and to package, price, and sell available airtime. * Requires knowledge of sales, research, and agency operations to train, motivate, direct, and evaluate the performance of subordinates. * Requires the ability to analyze the market, forecast and monitor expense budgets, establish financial goals and anticipated market share. * Extensive travel requirement with overnight stays in many instances. * Strong understanding of ratings estimation and analysis is required. * Candidate must possess strong leadership skills.

REVENUE/BUDGETARY/STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: * Responsible for a revenue budget of approximately $13m. * Responsible for National T&E budget. * Frequent internal contact with advertising agencies, clients and associated Tribune business units. * Directly supervises the day-to-day activities of the Sr. Sales Coordinator.
