Jeff ValinJeff Valin

Jeff says it's no illusion - he gets paid to have fun. "Sure, any job can feel like, well, a job in moments - I go to bed earlier than grade schoolers and the alarm goes off early enough to make a vampire cringe. But our producers get up even earlier! ... Once at work, that's when the fun begins."

Career-wise though for Jeff, the vortex of TV news began in Yuma, Arizona, where he anchored and reported at a CBS affiliate. Next came a similar set of duties at what was then WNDS in Derry, NH, followed by four years in the Great White North - Calgary, Alberta, to be exact. There he anchored a morning show, fell in love with the prairies and Canadian Rockies, and took home a Rosie Award for Best News Feature in 2006 from the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association, recognizing a series that had him doing such crazy stunts as climbing skyscrapers and ski jumping. (Did he mention his job was fun?)

But Connecticut represents a sort of homecoming. Jeff was born and raised in the Boston area, and although he has lots of official and sentimental ties to Canada, he'll forever root for the Stars & Stripes when a puck drops, with apologies to the Prime Minister and Wayne Gretzky.

In addition to television he's hosted radio, both in news and music formats, disc jockeyed events and acted on stage and in commercials, before and during all of which he had a separate career in the investment industry.

After the studio lights cool down you're likely to find Jeff on his rowing machine, playing soccer or hockey, reading a book, or perhaps his favorite: paragliding. After all, as he says, the only thing better than being on the air, is being in the air.

Jeff looks forward to meeting you either in the community or at the Fox 61 studios, adding, "Til then, may your days be filled with ... fun!"
