HARTFORD, Conn. — As people in Connecticut look to get back to work, job searching looks a little different during the pandemic.
“So much has to be done virtually now, so much has to be online, and we, as always, wanted to provide free and open resources for job seekers and employers,” said Ann Harrison, Communications Director for Workforce Alliance.
Workforce Alliance has kicked off a series of virtual hiring events that connect those looking for work with employers looking to add to their staff. Some of the job openings are seasonal. For example, both Amazon and FedEx are looking to hire for the holidays. But those positions also have the potential to lead to something more.
“I’ll use FedEx as an example. They have just done two hiring events with us, one last week, and one again this week, and they said to everyone who was listening, that they do promote from within,” said Harrison.
Other virtual hiring events include companies in the healthcare industry, which are looking to fill permanent positions both with people with hands-on healthcare skills and business experience.
“These types of employers are essential, and always have been, so we’re bringing these opportunities forward,” said Harrison.
Workforce Alliance says these virtual hiring events are giving job seekers the opportunities to meet face-to-face with employers in a time when a sit-down interview in an office may not be available. Job seekers should treat this just as they would any other interview.
“You want to be on time. You want to research the company, know a little bit about them before you jump on, you want to wear business attire, business casual, you want to look your best,” said Harrison.
