Norwich police investigate homicide on Lake Street

Police said when they arrived at the scene they found a 39-year-old man shot. He later died at the hospital.

NORWICH, Conn. — Norwich police are looking for a suspect they say shot and killed a man Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to an area on Lake Street around 4:30 p.m. for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found a 39-year-old man identified as Norwich resident Anthony Williams. He was taken to William Backus Hospital where police said he died from his injuries.

Connecticut State Police confirmed Tuesday that they are helping Norwich police with the investigation.

A small section of the sidewalk on Broad Street nearby was also taped off by investigators. Officers were seen searching the brush near that area.

There was also another scene over on Club House Road in Lisbon. A red Hyundai with South Carolina plates is believed to be a part of this investigation, according to police.

K9s were seen sniffing around the car and then taking investigators a few blocks into the neighborhood.

It’s unknown how the car is related to the investigation but police say it was involved.

Police said the shooting appeared to be targeted.

This is a developing story.
