CT Bucket List: Pine & Iron Axe Throwing in New Haven

Pick up that axe, try something new, and you never know what will happen next!

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — With so many of us wanting to let off some steam, get out our frustrations, why not throw some axes around? Safely, of course!

“People spend a lot of time on their phones these days, on the computer, and this is really a sort of primal activity,” said Joshua Kroscen one of the owners of Pine & Iron Axe Throwing in New Haven, “People find out when they get here, it’s a great way to socialize, and get back to your roots.”

Those roots, now turned into to pine target boards. They have locations in New Haven and Hartford.

On average, a group of four will pay $18 for an hour. You can bring your own food, there are plenty of good places to eat in the area, and drinks are on site.

When you come in, you’ll sign waivers, and then be paired with a coach, who walks you through everything you need to know.

“It’s socially distanced so we have spacing between people," said Kroscen, "People are really comfortable when they come in here when they see how everything is set up. It’s a great way to release that tension that people have these days.”

So, how easy is it? It may not be a bullseye every time but it gets easier as you go.

“Well, at first, they (customers) are definitely held back,” said Brian Honroe, a coach, “I always tell them, the first throw gets rid of the butterflies.”

Pick up that axe, try something new, and you never know what will happen next!
