Hartford Marathon

The Hartford Marathon Foundation and FOX 61 are excited to announce a new partnership supporting the foundation's signature event, the ING Hartford Marathon. The highly anticipated partnership deal will make FOX 61 the Marathon's major media sponsor to include coverage highlights leading up to the event and on-site coverage from 8-10:30am at Bushnell Park on race day, October 10, 2009.

The partnership signifies the united commitment of the Hartford Marathon Foundation and FOX 61 to bring healthy and eco-friendly events to residents of Connecticut and across the Northeast. Celebrating its 16th year, the ING Hartford Marathon attracts 10,000 participants and more than 30,000 spectators and volunteers to Hartford each fall.

"We're proud to host the state's largest race event and are excited about our new greening initiatives, community events and youth running programs for the 2009 ING Hartford Marathon," said Beth Shluger, founder of the Hartford Marathon Foundation and race director of the ING Hartford Marathon. "We're thrilled to have FOX 61 on board, their dedication to providing quality news coverage is a perfect match with our commitment to spreading messages about health and the importance of physical activity."

"We are thrilled to partner with the Hartford Marathon Foundation on this year's ING Hartford Marathon," said Richard Graziano, Vice President & General Manager of Fox 61 and Publisher, President & CEO of the Hartford Courant. "As the largest news-gathering operation in Connecticut we are committed to the local community and promoting and growing key events across the state. It's a great opportunity for Fox 61 and the Hartford Courant to leverage our unparalleled reach across the market to bringing the race to the next level using all our platforms."

Fox 61's own Logan Byrnes will be running in the ING Hartford Marathon. He is chronicling his journey to race day in his Marathon Blog.

2002 Greater Hartford Marathon Photos

After Joseph Nderitu and Kassahun Kawiso took a wrong turn in the 18th mile of the United Technologies Greater Hartford Marathon, it didn't seem likely either runner would win the race, never mind set a course record.
