HARTFORD -
A city man was charged with assault on a police officer early today after he allegedly punched an officer in the face.
The incident began at 3:30 a.m., when two officers observed two men loitering near 605 Blue Hills Ave. As soon as the officers approached, the men stash a weapon in a nearby parked car and flee the scene, police said.
But the officers soon detained the men and one of them, Desmond Edwards, 27, of 597 Blue Hills Ave. punched Officer Anthony Pia in the face, police said.
Officers recovered a .38 caliber revolver and in addition to the assault charge, Edwards was also arrested on weapons charges, police daid.
