HARTFORD — - A taxi cab driver is in critical condition after being shot in the back of the neck Thursday by three assailants on Babcock Street.

The driver, an unidentified man, had stopped by 55 Babcock St. to pick up a fare about 11:45 p.m., Hartford police Sgt. Christene Mertes said.

He was approached by three men and shot once. The driver then stepped on the gas and crashed into the front steps of 61 Babcock St., Mertes said.

The shooting unfolded in a residential part of the city. The driver was taken to Hartford Hospital. It was unclear what taxi cab company the car was licensed to.

No arrests have been made.
