FARMINGTON -
Police said they expect to charge a 20-year-old man with stealing a 1999 Audi he saw advertised on Craigslist in September.
Ryan Bowden, of New Britain, arranged to test drive the car Sept. 14 at West Farms Mall, police said. As the owner exited the car to change seats after the test drive, Bowden drove away with the Audi, police said.
"As soon as he gets out of the car, [Bowden] guns it and takes off," said Lt. Marshall Porter.
He said police expect to serve Bowden with a warrant today, charging him with second-degree larceny, second-degree criminal trover, theft of a firearm, reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license.
The car was found in Hartford with several items that did not belong to the owner, including Bowden's debit card and paperwork with Bowden's name, Porter said.
When contacted by police, Bowden said he'd purchased the car and wasn't aware that it had been stolen. He eventually admitted to stealing the car, Porter said.
Bowden has a similar case pending in Superior Court in New Britain.
