Ellington Apartment Fire

Ellington Apartment Fire (November 6, 2009)

ELLINGTON - A fire destroyed one apartment and damaged its neighboring units at the Autumn Chase complex on Route 83 Friday morning.

The apartment is part of an eight-unit building, which was evacuated once firefighters arrived. The complex includes numerous buildings.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Ellington Fire Chief Michael Varney said the fire likely broke out in the garage area of the unit that sustained heavy fire damage.

The resident of the now uninhabitable apartment exited the building by the time firefighters arrived. She was treated for smoke inhalation and then taken to Rockville General Hospital.

About 40 firefighters, including many from Vernon and Crystal Lake fire departments, responded. They put the fire out in an hour. The other seven units sustained smoke damage.
