FARMINGTON — - Police are investigating a report that someone parachuted off a television transmission tower on Rattlesnake Mountain this morning.

Police went to the transmitter site off Route 6 about 5:30 a.m. after an alarm was activated. Police also received a report about the parachutist. Lt. Marshal Porter said officers didn't find anything during their initial investigation, but were called away when a serious car vs. pedestrian accident was reported on Brickyard Road about 7:45 a.m.

Police towed a car from near the transmission tower but did not know if it had any connection to the alarm and the person who may have parachuted off the tower.

The tower was built in the early 1980s for Fox61 when Arnold Chase owned the station. Chase still owns the tower and rents space to Fox61 and WTXX, as well as CPTV. Dozens of other tenants use the tower as well, including WRCH-FM, police departments and other communication companies, a Fox61 official said.
