MIDDLETOWN — - A local man has been charged with stabbing a man early Sunday, police said.

Officers were dispatched to a Saybrook Road home at 4:51 a.m. for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived they found a victim and determined he'd been stabbed several hours earlier at another location. The man was taken to Hartford Hospital and reported in stable condition.

Police identified Carl Rankins, 50, as a suspect and determined the attack occurred at 142 South Main St. Patrol officers tracked Rankins down and a sergeant found him hiding under a bed in a relative's apartment.

Rankins was charged with second-degree assault and held on $250,000 bail for court today in Middletown.

Detectives said they are still investigating.
