WILLIMANTIC — - Gov. M. Jodi Rell visited the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum Friday to view the damage caused by vandals earlier this week. Also Friday, museum leaders began seeking donations to help make repairs.

A fund has been set up at the Savings Institute Bank & Trust Co. at 803 Main St., Willimantic, CT06226. Donations can also be sent to the Connecticut Eastern Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, P.O. Box 665, Willimantic, CT, 06226.

Museum volunteer Dick Arnold of Bolton said damage estimates are in excess of $100,000. Damage includes custom windows on the museum's roundhouse, windshields on several historic vehicles and windows on a locomotive. The vandals also spray painted a swastika and other graffiti on a steam engine and a diesel engine.

The museum will also be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, but contributions are welcome.
