Heparin, Vaccines, Baby Names

New details on the controversial blood thinner heparin.

You may remember hearing that imports of the drug, from china, were to blame for several deaths. Right now, the FDA is investigating more than 80 deaths linked to the drug.

An active ingredient in Heparin, comes from a plant in china.

Health And Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt says those imports are safe.

He points to tighter testing and controls.

The debate over mercury-based vaccines, and if there's any link to autism, is now heading to federal court.

The case involves two 10-year-old boys in Oregon.



Prosecutors argue the boys developed normally, until they were exposed to vaccines with Thimersol.

It's no longer used in vaccines, and dozens of different studies have not shown any link to autism. Most scientists say-- we really don't know why the rates have raised so dramatically/

These two boys will serve as a test case.

Overall, nearly 5-thousand families have files similar claims. The cost of caring for our veterans is expected to jump to $59 billion a year,

As more and more soldier's age--

That's according to a new associated press report. That's a 29-billion dollar jump, from what is being spent now on world war two and Korean War veterans.

Why the spike in cost? Better medical care and technology.

In fact, soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan now come home with injuries, which couldn't be treated years ago.

There are nearly 24-million disabled vets in the U.S.

This year's list of the most popular baby names is out.

And for the 12th straight time Emily is again number one for girls. Their top picks for girls are Isabella, Emma and Ava.

The only new name on the girls list was Elizabeth. The top pick among boys is Jacob leading the pack for the ninth year in a row.

Biblical names continued to dominate the boys' list including Michael, Joshua and Matthew.

The list is put out each year by the social security administration.
