NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut woman could face years in
prison when she's sentenced this week for stealing more than a half
million dollars from a bank where she was a manager.
Federal prosecutors say 59-year-old Patricia Ariano of Trumbull stole about $516,000 from customers' certificates of deposit while she was manager of a Webster Bank branch office in Trumbull.
Ariano faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million when she is sentenced Monday.
Prosecutors say Ariano processed fake documents in 2006 and 2007 saying certain customers were requesting withdrawals from their CDs. Some of the accounts were dormant and owned by people who had died.
Authorities say Ariano withdrew money from seven CD accounts for her personal use.
