SUFFIELD - The race is on to finish a new home from scratch in Suffield!

Crews from the tv show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" began work on the Hill family's new house.

On Wednesday, construction began on what will be a spacious new place for their large family. William and Catherine Hill were chosen to have their old ranch bulldozed and a new one built. In 1993, a fire badly damaged their small ranch home.

The Hills have nearly a dozen sons, daughters, nieces and nephews rolling in and out of their home. The musical family has long inspired their community but times have been tight. They have been trying to get by and put money aside to pay for medical treatment for a sick family member.

On Wednesday, hundreds of volunteers began putting up the frame of what will be their dream home. The producers of the hit show along with several Connecticut businesses are pitching in to get the new home finished by Sunday night. That's when the hill family will return from Disney World and get a first glimpse of their spectacular new home.
