WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut judge has given a suspended prison sentence and probation to a former school bookkeeper charged with embezzling tens of thousands of dollars.

Thirty-six-year-old Priscilla Baranauskas of Middlebury was sentenced Wednesday under a plea agreement.

Baranauskas was accused of stealing more than $50,000 from a student activities account for the school district that includes Middlebury and Southbury.

An internal audit revealed $53,555 was missing from the account used for athletic events, dances, field trips, the school's yearbook and other activities.

The money helps to fund programs not paid for in the school budget.

Officials say Baranauskas has paid back the more than $53,000 missing from the fund.
