It's prom season, and this weekend that meant there were a lot of after-prom parties. State police received several calls about a large party in the Cornwall Bridge section of the Litchfield Hills. When police got there, they say as many as a hundred kids were drinking there. Three of them were so severely intoxicated they had to be taken by ambulance to Sharon hospital. Police later charged the homeowner Ralph Joseph Dzenutis with risk of injury, and permitting minors to illegally possess liquor.

The 48 year old's son had been at the Housatonic Valley High School's junior prom. The incident comes just a week after a new public service announcement was unveiled. It reminded parents: if kids drink at your house, you will be held responsible.

Lt. Paul Vance with the Connecticut State police reminds parents, "If you have a gathering of people at your home, it's against the law in the state of Connecticut to allow them to drink or provide them with alcohol. They cannot. And you are culpable if you allow that to take place."

Students, though at Housatonic Valley High School say that drinking is pervasive in all high schools, and don't believe there is much anyone can do about it.

Kevin Cantolli said, "Parents don't have much control over what people bring. It's tough for them. In this case, everyone's just shocked and surprised."

Lt. Paul Vance reminds everyone, parents who think they're doing their kids a favor, and who think their kids are safer drinking at home might find themselves with a record, instead.

"It's a parent's responsibility to manage their home. Regardless of the number of people they let into their home," Lt. Paul Vance.

Dzenutis is scheduled to be in Bantam court on May 26th.
