BRIGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut people who have exotic pets ranging from snakes to chimps will be able to given them to a Bridgeport zoo under a 1-day amnesty program.
The Beardsley Zoo and the state Department of Environmental Protection are working together for the Exotic Animal Amnesty Day on July 25.
Owners of animals including wolves, bears and snakes can bring the pets to the zoo and not face any penalties or other repercussions.
The amnesty day is being held because many animals owned by some state residents are illegal and can be dangerous. Cats and dogs are not included.
Exotic animals have generated concerns following a February incident in which a chimpanzee living in Stamford, severely mauled a friend of his owner.
