BOYLSTON MASSACHUSETTS - In the infamous words of Kermit the Frog, "its not easy being green," unless you travel about an hour and a half from Hartford to Boylston, Mass. Tower Hill Botanic Garden is a place that's well manicured and where things run wild, "this is a gardeners paradise, 132 acres of beautiful gardens," said Tower Hill Marketing Manager Michael Arnum. "We're the 3rd oldest horticultural society in the country, founded in 1842 and our mission is to advance the science and encourage and improve the practice of horticulture," Arnum added.

For the horitculurally challenged, Arnum and the staff are here to help, "A botanic garden is a botanic garden because all the plants are labeled, they have their common name, their scientific name and their place of origin," he said. Like any victorious garden, Tower Hill is ever growing and constantly evolving -- there are over ten thousand types of flowers on the impeccably arranged grounds. "Theres got to be tens of thousands of perennials, who knows how many annuals we put out," Arnum said. Alan Murphy, visiting from nearby Chelmsford, Mass said "this is one of the best kept secrets in New England, we've been looking all over for places like this and Tower Hill is just one of the nicest places we've seen."

At this botanic garden, the wilder it gets, the more serene, just head down to the wildlife refuge pond where bird watchers won't be disappointed, and, with all the shrubbery, being "bush league" is part of the allure. Arnum said, "its gorgeous at every turn, I think its just the feeling of tranquility that envelopes them from the moment they step on the property."
