HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut officials say the state expects to draw at least 20,000 visitors as it prepares to host the 2011 World Youth Peace Summit.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell and other officials announced Monday that the 12-day event will be held at the University of Connecticut's main campus in Storrs starting in late June 2011.
It includes the six-day World Scholar-Athlete Games, in which artists and athletes ages 15 to 19 will participate.
The event is an initiative of the nonprofit Institute for International Sport, and is designed to help participants develop peace programs for their home countries or communities.
