FOX to debut live production of ‘Grease’ January 2016

Sandy and Rizzo have already been cast, but producers are still looking for their Danny Zuko!

HARTFORD – After announcing the preparation for Grease Live (working title), a live production of the massively popular crossover musical Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, in April 2014, Fox Broadcasting Company and Paramount Television have set a tentative date and secured several main characters.

The original 1978 film was based on the 1971 Broadway musical, using the same story, lyrics, and music as written by legendary team Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs, and the live production does not intend to divert.  “From Broadway to film, and across generations, ‘Grease’ s one of the most beloved musical stories ever told- and we can’t wait to bring it to our air in a spectacular live event,” said Shana C. Waterman, SVP of Event Series for FOX.  Amy Powell, President of Paramount TV, went on to add, “FOX’s passion for engaging audiences with bold storytelling and live musical formats make it a perfect home for this special broadcast.”

The three hour musical event is scheduled to air live on January 31, 2016, with Julianne Hough in the starring role of Sandy and Vanessa Hudgens as secondary character Rizzo, featuring all of the iconic songs Grease fans know and love, including “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightin’,” and “You’re the One That I Want.”
