CANTON, Connecticut — From tying flies for fishing to tubing down the Farmington River, a welcome change in the weather finally has tour operators back in business.
The month of July has been a challenge for guides like Seth Boynick who owns Farmington River Trading, a fishing outfit that brings guests out on small boats to the most optimal and scenic spots on the Farmington River.
“People have been sidelined,” Boynick said, “it has not been safe for the wade fishermen and not safe for the guides and no one wants to get hurt so they have been out of business.”
Over the past week, currents have calmed significantly so Boynick is now able to bring his guests back out for fly fishing expeditions – at the most important time of the year.
“It’s a limited season,” Boynick said, “the time to go it is right now.”
Another good sign for river businesses, there was no shortage of tubers enjoying a Summer day on the river -- tubing business had also been halted due to rushing waters over the past month.
