ROXBURY, Conn. — Science has always been a passion for Kasia Smith. With a background in biology, she got her certificate in health and wellness coaching and just this year launched Copilot Wellness in Roxbury.
“It’s inspired by my childhood in Connecticut going hot air ballooning with my father, and really I find it’s an anecdote for my relationships with clients, that I’m really there to guide them and support them as their copilot,” said Kasia Smith, a Certified Health & Wellness Coach and Founder of Copilot Wellness.
Since her business had just started when the pandemic hit, she made a plan to help people live their best lives during what can be a stressful and taxing time. She has virtual wellness visits with her clients, emphasizing the things they can do to stay healthy as we deal with the pandemic and the upcoming flu season.
“There are a lot of different lifestyle interventions that we can all do to make sure our immune system is functioning at its best. That can include sleep, something as easy as getting enough sleep, adequate sleep and good quality sleep as well,” she said.
She says another way to boost immune function is to make sure you’re getting regular physical activity.
“So even making sure we’re taking a walk around our neighborhood, or jumping on the treadmill, or going for a socially distanced walk with our friends,” said Smith.
Diet plays a key part as well.
“Making sure that we’re eating a rich diet filled with plants, plant-based foods and fruits and really making sure that we’re reducing our intake of sugar and processed foods, again, striving for whole foods that really will go a long way to keeping our immune systems strong,” said Smith.
She also says during this pandemic she’s seen people’s priorities shift and many are putting a real emphasis on self-care, which is important in our daily lives.
