Connecticut gas prices jump to highest prices in 2021

In Connecticut, the average price of gas is now $3.17. This is almost a dollar higher than it was last year.

CONNECTICUT, USA — The national average for the price of gas has risen to the highest it has been in all of 2021. Connecticut also saw the highest average price of gas this year, which happened on Saturday, August 7.

According to AAA, Connecticut saw an average of $3.17 a gallon. this is up a penny on the week, three cents last month, and up 98 cents higher than this time last year when a lot of people worked from home.

“AAA continues to see very robust gasoline demand for the peak summer driving season,” said Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA Greater Hartford. “The latest demand rate was 2% higher than the same time period in 2019, while gasoline stocks are about 1% below.”

The national average for Monday reached $3.19. AAA says the market concern of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases across the country and a stronger dollar caused prices to be pushed lower at the end of last week.

"Crude prices also declined after the EIA’s latest report showed that total domestic crude stocks increased. For this week, crude prices could decrease further if the market continues to worry that crude demand will decline as restrictions are imposed to halt the transmission of COVID-19," said AAA officials in a written statement.

In Bridgeport, the price of gas is about $3.24, in Norwich/New London its is up 2 cents from last week at $3.21, and in Hartford, it is $3.14.
