Local CT health district warning customers not to eat food from Ellington donut shop

Health officials say they have received several reports of gastrointestinal illnesses from people who consumed the food from Gerry's Donuts.

ELLINGTON, Conn. — The North Central District Health Department issued a warning Friday evening, telling customers not to eat the food from Gerry's Donuts in Ellington.

Health officials say they have received several reports of gastrointestinal illnesses from people who consumed the food from the store. Officials added the symptoms reported include vomiting and diarrhea.

Gerry's Donuts has been closed as the North Central District Health Department investigates the cause of the illnesses. Anyone who may still have any of the food from the store is not to eat or serve it and should throw it out.

Health officials say those still experiencing illness should call their doctor.

Gerry's Donuts released a statement on its Facebook page Friday apologizing to customers.

"We would like to acknowledge the fact that numerous customers may have fallen ill after visiting our shop this past weekend.," said Gerry's Donuts in a written statement. "We take our customer's safety seriously and would like to apologize if Gerry's donuts contributed in any way to this illness. We are not taking this lightly and will open back up for business as soon as we feel it’s safe... Thank you for your continued loyalty Also, we like to apologize to anyone who took offense to our first post! Humor in dark times is not for everyone."
