Travel experts warn holiday airfare expected to rise

In the coming weeks, experts say travelers could soon be paying hundreds more for a flight over the major holidays.

HARTFORD, Conn. — For people planning to travel during the upcoming major holiday season, experts recommend buying your flights now because prices are going up.

Travel experts said when it comes to getting a good deal on holiday airfare, there’s no time like the present. The lowest prices are available right now.

In its annual holiday travel guidance report, Hopper said fares for Thanksgiving will spike after Halloween and a round-trip ticket could cost around $400 leading up to the holiday.

One expert said travelers can expect to pay an additional $100 per domestic ticket and an additional $200 for an international ticket. The reason for the spike in prices, more travelers means high demand and therefore, higher prices.
