Stamford man arrested, charged in Waterbury Walmart stabbing

Police said the suspect had gone around a cash register and stabbed the cashier in the head

WATERBURY, Conn. — One person has been arrested and faces charges after reportedly stabbing someone at a Waterbury Walmart.

Police said they and EMS were called to the Walmart on Wolcott Street yesterday afternoon after a store cashier was reportedly stabbed by a man.

According to police, a cashier had scanned a gallon of milk for 41-year-old Hichman Asfir of Stamford. After telling him how much he owed, Asfir reportedly walked around the register, grabbed the female cashier by the hair, and then stabbed her with a folding knife to the left side of her head. 

Police said after the stabbing, Asfir dropped the knife and sat down. 

The victim was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital for treatment. She remains hospitalized in stable condition. 

According to police, the victim did not know Asfir. 

Police were able to take Asfir in without incident. He has been charged with Assault 1st and Breach of Peace 2nd and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
