NEW HAVEN — The waiting area in the emergency room at Yale New Haven hospital was cleared Monday night due to a hazmat situation.
According to officials, an individual pulled out a towel out of his backpack at the ER and threw it on a counter.
The person then said, “This is going to be chemical warfare.”
The towel contained some kind of stain on it that prompted a hazmat response.
A total of 35 people were removed from the area.
Police say the fire department also responded to the scene. Police said Tuesday that the incident was isolated and there’s no immediate threat to the public.
The suspect is described as an Asian male around 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium build with short black hair. He was wearing glasses and clad in a black jacket, light blue jeans, gray shoes, and a black backpack.
