HUNTSVILLE, Ala — UPDATE: 305 8th Street has received a new washing machine thanks to the generosity of a WZDX News viewer! 305 8th Street Executive Director, Andrea Williams, provided our team with this update.

A living facility for adults with special needs in Huntsville says they need your help.

A few days ago, 305 8th Street, posted on Facebook that they needed a new microwave. Someone was kind enough to give one, but they need still help mounting it.

WZDX is told the home is in need of volunteers to help with things like sanding and painting some walls the home, after some projects were put on hold during the pandemic.

We're told, the home is currently in "Phase 1" with strict visitation rules. But, as residents and staff receive the coronavirus vaccine, visitation restrictions will be loosened.

Now, one of their washer machines is broken and residents and staff are hoping someone can help give another.

We caught up with Andrea Williams, Executive Director of 305 8th Street. She tells our reporter, “Right now, residents are toting clothes across the street to our other program.”

One 305 8th Street resident tells WZDX, “You have to go back and check them and then bring them back here. It’s very difficult!”

305 8th street is raising money to build a new laundry facility for the residents, and they’re halfway to their goal. The home needs another 12,000 dollars to fund the project.

You can connect with 305 8th Street on Facebook to stay up to date with volunteer opportunities or reach out to give.
