One man shot over drug deal, juvenile arrested: Avon Police

CANTON, Connecticut — The Canton and Avon Police Departments are investigating a shooting over a drug deal that injured one man Saturday night. 

Canton Police say a man suffered non life-threatening injuries  and a juvenile suspect is in police custody.

Avon police responded to 14 Elizabeth Rd in Canton to assist police there with a reported shooting. Police said teams from Avon, Canton and Simsbury set up a perimeter around the home, telling the people inside to exit the house. 

Police said a 17-year-old suspect was detained. Canton police determined that the shooing happened in the area of 7 Hillcrest Drive in Avon. A 20-year-old man was take to St. Francis with non life-threatening  injuries and later released. 

The two homes are about a tenth of a mile apart, on opposite sides of the Avon, Canton town line. 

Police seized a firearm from the home after obtaining search warrant. The 17-year-old was charged as a juvenile for assault with a deadly weapon. They said the shooting happened during a dispute over a drug deal.

There was a large police presence in the area of Elizabeth Road, off of Secret Lake Road.  That area is right on the Canton-Avon town line. 

Police have not released many details, but say "there are no further public safety concerns at this time. This incident remains under investigation."
