PLAINVILLE -- Today's stop for Foodie Friday - J. Timothy's Taverne, home of the award-winning "dirt" chicken wings.

The wings are fried and sauced and then fried and sauced again making them crispy and caramelized, a favorite for locals for more than 35 years.

The tasty style came from a customer whose nickname was "Dirt."  He would come in after softball games and order wings but wouldn't eat them right away because he was talking and telling stories. So, he would ask the cook to add more sauce to them and re-heat. That's how the "dirt" wings were born.

The popular restaurant opened in Plainville in 1979 and produces more than 200 tons of wings every year. They offer four different sauces (Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Teriyaki and Sweet Red Chili) along with the usual trimmings of blue cheese or ranch dressing.

J. Timothy's Taverne offers a full menu and many craft beers from Connecticut breweries.
