Kindness comes full-circle for widow who gifted sled to news anchor

FOX61 surprised a Griswold woman on Monday morning with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, donated by a local florist.

GRISWOLD, Conn. — The kindness of a Griswold widow came full circle on Valentine’s Day after she gifted her late husband Richard’s vintage sled to FOX61’s Keith McGilvery and the FOX61 News team.

McGilvery surprised Maria Misenti on Monday morning with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. When FOX61 knocked on the door, Misenti started to cry and share her gratitude.

“Come on in! Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My husband thanks you too, he truly does, only we are out of sleds now so, it would be a nice day to go sledding though, come on in!” said Misenti when McGilvery surprised her at her front door.

The flowers were donated by the It’s So Ranunculus flower shop in Marlborough. Owner Leah O’Hearn jumped at the opportunity to help after watching Misenti’s story of generosity.

“That she is always loved whether he is with her or not, and that she is loved by the community, and that her generosity is being reciprocated by others,” said O’Hearn.

Misenti gifted the sled to McGilvery after watching him look for a good sled during recent storm coverage. Misenti lost her husband to cancer three years ago and has been working to find the perfect home for many of his most loved items.
