NORTH HAVEN–People were ready for their chicken, a full day before it was even cooked!

The state’s latest Chick-fil-A opened in North Haven Thursday morning, just after 6 a.m.

The deal? The first 100 people in line got one free Chick-fil-A meal per week for a year (at least if they lived in certain zip codes nearby). The thing is, those people had to spend more than a day waiting! As of 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, nearly 24 hours before the doors opened, 75 people had lined up with tents to wait for their year of free meals.

Th 560 Universal Drive N. location is Connecticut’s fifth Chick-fil-A restaurant and features a two-story indoor play area, free Wi-Fi and drive thru.

This isn’t the company’s first foray into free giveaways. For 13 years the chain has used the gimmick for new store openings, so far giving away about $27 million in free food! “Rain, snow and extreme temperatures below zero or above 100 do not deter Chick-fil-A fans who arrive with tents, chairs, TVs, computers and other gear,” the company said in a statement.

The location’s franchise owner, Sarah Guadiano, served eight years active duty in the Navy and is still a reservist.

To honor the new location, people can drop off new or gently used children’s books through Saturday, which will be donated to the North Haven Community Library.

There are Chick-fil-A restaurants in Brookfield, Enfield, Danbury and Wallingford, and another is due to open in West Hartford.
