ANSONIA -- Police say a  distracted driver caused a crash this morning with a school bus.

Police say the crash happened around 8:20 a.m on North Main Street between Ridge Road and Underhill Road. A Chevy blazer and a school bus collided head on. The bus was taking students to the Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School in New Haven. There were 10 students on the bus between the ages of 10 and 14. All the students were released to a parent, or guardian, on the scene. The only reported injury was a minor scratch to one of the students.

The driver of the SUV, a 60-year-old man, suffered various injuries to his upper body, but was coherent and alert on scene. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, and his condition remains unknown.

Police say their initial investigation shows that the Chevy was traveling north on North main Street, and crossed the center line. It struck the bus head on. The driver admitted to officers to be distracted with his cell phone while driving.

The investigation is still ongoing, and charges are pending.
