COLCHESTER -- Firefighters released several gallons of water after a propane truck rolled over and spilled gas on West Road Monday.
“This propane tank has approximately 3,000 gallons of propane on it. We had leaks coming from the underneath that we had to deal with,” said Colchester Fire Department Chief, Walt Cox.
The driver lost control of the truck and landed on the opposite side of the road. Luckily, the driver only suffered minor injuries. Firefighters are asked nearby residents to stay inside as they clean up.
But the spill did not stop neighbors from checking on their loved ones.
“My father lives right on 359 West Road which is right where it happened and my sisters were over there watching him, and he was doing good,” said Larry.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded to the scene to ensure the propane does not spread to homes.
“We will be working in the area with the fire departments to insure the surrounding areas, the basements, low-lying areas are meters to make sure there is no accumulation of propane and vapors that can be hazardous,” said DEEP Supervising Technician, Jeff Chandler.
