College student charged with DUI after serious scooter crash on Route 32 in New London

NEW LONDON – Police said they arrested a college student for driving under the influence she hit a scooter on Route 32 in New London early Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday at around 12:15 a.m., police were called to a car versus scooter accident with injuries. The man driving the scooter was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. He was then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The operator of the car, Sophia Thielman, 19, of Rye Brook, NY, and a Connecticut College student, was charged with driving  under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Route 32 Southbound at Benham Avenue in Waterford was shut down but was reopened and the accident has been cleared from the road.
