New Metro North Station Approved For Bridgeport

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut lawmakers will be receiving a briefing about Metro-North Railroad’s operations.

Members of the General Assembly’s Transportation Committee were scheduled to hear Monday from Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metro-North Railroad President Joseph Giulietti at a forum planned at the Legislative Office Building.

There have been various bills proposed during this year’s legislative session concerning Metro-North, including legislation that would have allowed another operator to bid on the commuter rail line. That proposal, however, did not come up for a vote.

Lawmakers have also expressed an interest in having a representative from the state on the MTA board of directors. Such proposals have come in the wake of some high-profile incidents, including a major power failure. There have also been various accidents on the rail line that have prompted concerns from lawmakers.
