Around 10:30 a.m. on December 23 State Police responded to a home on Birchview Drive after a house alarm was activated.

When they arrived they found smoke in the home and an injured man. The man, later identified as Richard Dabate, 39, was taken to the hospital for injuries that aren't life-threatening.

While investigating what occurred police found the body of a woman in the home. She has been identified as Connie Dabate, 39, and the medical examiner says that she died from gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Richard and Connie both lived in the Birchview Drive home in which they were found.

Police have not yet named a suspect, and won't say what type of investigation this is.

Trooper Kelly Grant, the State Police spokesperson, said on Thursday, "Are there signs this was a domestic dispute?  Sure.  But again, I'm not going to make that determination. They don't want to say that and then say someone broke in and then later on that it was a domestic dispute. Right now, it's being investigated as a suspicious homicide until we make a determination."

Police say there is no risk to the community, and residents shouldn't be concerned.
