CHESTER — A man was killed after blowing through a stop sign and crashing into the woods early Sunday.

Police say 20-year-old Paul Josiah Brock lost control while heading northbound on Route 145 in Chester. The driver was unable to stop as he sped through an intersection, exiting the roadway and flying into a wooded area at full force.

Emergency crews quickly descended upon the scene and found the vehicle crumpled at the base of a tree. They discovered Brock, the vehicle’s lone occupant, trapped inside and unconscious.

Volunteers from the Chester Fire Department worked with Deep River Ambulance EMTs to extricate the victim. Middlesex Hospital paramedics attempted to resuscitate the victim, but were ultimately unsuccessful.

Brock was pronounced deceased a short time later.
