MILFORD — State Police said a three-vehicle crash  Monday morning on Interstate 95 North in Milford was caused by a wrong-way driver.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-95 north of Exit 40, at around 4:45 a.m. and involved a truck and 2 cars. The highway was shut down but reopened about an hour and a half later.

A tractor-trailer truck driven by Benjamin L. Joseph Jr.  was headed north on I-95 in the center lane, and a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Joseph G. Dwyer was in the left lane. A 2016 Buick Encore driven by Rufino Dominguez was headed the wrong way toward the pickup truck, which veered into the median shoulder trying to avoid it, but was hit in the front right corner.  The impact  caused the pickup to hit the concrete barrier and also caused Buick to roll over across the center lane into the right lane. The tractor-trailer tried to avoid the car and hit the pickup truck.

Dwyer and Dominguez were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for minor injuries.

There were minor injuries reported.

The accident is under investigation.
