HARTFORD -- A Hartford school official is the subject of a police investigation, officers confirmed Wednesday.

A statement from the Board of Education said Eduardo Genao was being investigated. Genao was formerly the school system's executive director for compliance. "As of April 5th, Mr. Genao is no longer employed by Hartford Public Schools," said Pedro Zayas, Hartford Public Schools Director of Communications.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley said police were approached by a member of the community regarding criminal allegations against a staff member from the Hartford school district. Following procedure, police notified the school system of the investigation.

Police would no elaborate on the nature of the allegations levied against Genao. A unidentified man who answered the door at Genao's home said he was not issuing any statements.

Foley said no one, including students, are or were in danger. Authorities said they completed search warrants and seized evidence in the case.

Police said that no arrest has been made and the investigation is ongoing.

"If we develop probable cause on a criminal allegation, we would make an arrest," said the Deputy Chief.

A representative for the Board of Education declined an on-camera interview request on the matter.

Mayor Luke Bronin deferred comments to police as well.
