While Tanisha Akinloye cut and styled her customers’ hair, she heard life stories of illness, grief from military widowhood, economic hardship, addiction, and domestic abuse. She saw her clients’ inner beauty and strength emerge as she helped them look more beautiful, listened with empathy, and offered advice.
After a careful deliberation and much prayer, Tanisha felt lead to make a drastic change. She decided to close her salon, leaving her successful career as a hair stylist and salon owner to embark on a new mission called Empowering Through Beauty, Inc.
With a strong mandate to provide the gift of beauty, life transformation, and complete well-being to disadvantaged women, children and men, Empowering through Beauty is a non-profit with the purpose of enriching lives, building confidence, and promoting self-sufficiency through self-esteem workshops, educational programs, social entrepreneurship, and anti-poverty seminars.
“Empowering through Beauty prides itself in providing great customer service and aiding to help stylists understand the power of unification,” said Tanisha Akinloye. “Overall, our mission is to foster women’s needs by building them up mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.”
Since 2010, Empowering Through Beauty, Inc. has provided 300 beauty services.
