Local college baseball action had the University of Hartford Hawks hosting a doubleheader against America East foe Albany.

On the mound for Hartford in the opener was ace lefthander Sean Newcomb. In the top of the second, Newcomb struck out the side. He went seven innings getting seven strikeouts, including his 200th career K.

In the bottom of the second inning, Trey Stover got good contact and sent the ball up against the center field wall. That was far enough for James Alfonso and Brady Sheetz to score. Stover got caught trying to make it to third, but the damage was done as the Hawks took a 2-0  lead.

In the top of the eighth, with Hartford leading 2-1, Josh Nethaway smacked a shot just fair down the left field line for the Danes. It bounced off the post more then deep enough for Brian Bullard to scamper home and tie the score, 2-2.

They took that score to the bottom of the ninth, when the Hawks put runners at the corners. Ryan Lukach dropped a gorgeous bunt down the first base side. The pitcher tried to scoop the ball to the plate, but Chris DelDebbio slid home for the game winner as the Hartford Hawks took the opener, 3-2. Hartford then won the second game 3-0 behind a seven-inning shutout from Brian Hunter.
