MIDDLETOWN --  All lanes of I-91 North in Middletown have been re-opened following an accident where a construction worker was struck  by exits 20 and 21.

State Police identified the construction worker as 27-year-old Dillon Peterson of Vernon.

According to Troop H, the incident occurred around  8:15 p.m. when two vehicles made contact, causing one of the cars to cross into the CTDOT project, hitting Peterson who was putting out orange cones and safety signs.

Police say Peterson was transported to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to be okay.

The driver who crossed into the construction zone was also transported to the hospital for evaluation of possible injuries.

Police say the driver of the second vehicle involved fled the scene and is a likely to have minor to moderate damage to the left side of the vehicle, including damage to a wheel and tire.
