NEW HAVEN — A judge has abruptly dismissed four counts of second-degree sexual assault a Connecticut rabbi had been facing, leaving him charged only with four counts of risk of injury to a child.
The New Haven Register reports that the judge dismissed the charges Monday on the last day of testimony in 79-year-old Rabbi Daniel Greer’s trial.
The request was made by William Dow III, Greer’s attorney, who told the judge that under Connecticut law, allegations of sexual assault must be reported by the alleged victim to authorities within five years of the purported offenses.
A New Jersey man, now 31, alleges Greer sexually assaulted him multiple times when he attended the Yeshiva of New Haven school from 2001 to 2005.
After a break to study the law, the judge agreed with Dow.
