Pickleball, anyone?  This unique sport - part ping-pong, part badminton - is growing in popularity, especially in the Ocean State. “It’s taken off,” says Linda Letendre, who has been teaching players the art of Pickleball during weekly clinics in the City by the Sea. With the help of a grant, Newport Recreation is revitalizing old tennis courts in Hunter Park, poised to create the first space in Rhode Island dedicated solely to this activity with the peculiar name. “Newport is all about quality of life,” says Scott Wheeler, Buildings and Grounds Supervisor for the city. “People come because they want to enjoy the ocean, the bay, the mansions, the trees and recreation is a huge part of that.”
