SOUTHINGTON — The local and state fire marshal and police are investigating a fire that claimed the life of one person early Sunday.

Firefighters were called to 32A Darling St. at 4:28 a.m. Sunday and found a bedroom burning in an apartment in the eight-unit building. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Three people were able to escape the apartment where the fire began. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at a local hospital, fire Capt. Alan Zygmunt said.

There was heavy fire damage to one bedroom and smoke and heat damage to two more bedrooms.

Southington police said one person died in the fire, but that they could not release the person’s name.
