HARTFORD - Police say 55-year-old Charles Holder of Hartford is dead after crashing a motorcycle on West Service Road.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Part of West Service Road was closed off for several hours as the Accident Reconstruction Team stayed on scene.

Police conducted a secondary search using infrared light.

"Speed appears to be a factor. The debris field is probably over 50, 60 yards. The only thing that he struck at this time looks like the curb line as well as the guardrail," said Lt. Paul Cicero of the Hartford Police Department.

Police say the 2006 Suzuki was legitimately registered but did not belong to Holder.

Police say initial indications are that Holder was not wearing a helmet and speed was a contributing factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
