SOUTHINGTON–A man has been charged with several crimes after police say he tried to solicit pre-teens online.

The State Police Computer Crimes Unit launched an undercover investigation recently to try and find people responsible for soliciting pre-teen sex-trafficking victims online.

Police say that Charles Stone, 36, of Plainville, had been communicating over the internet with what he thought was one of those pre-teens, but was really an undercover state trooper. He arranged to meet the “pre-teen” for sex, but came face-to-face with cops instead.

Stone was arrested in Southington at the arranged meet up and charged with criminal attempt at sexual assault in the second degree, trafficking in persons, patronizing a prostitute, criminal attempt at risk of injury to a child and weapons in a vehicle (he had a dangerous weapon with him).

He posted $50,000 bond and will be in court November 28.
